TinEye is like 'Google' for images

I do realize that Google has an image search.  I use it a lot.  The thing about their image search is that you have to type in what you're looking for. TinEye allows you to either upload an existing image or enter the url of an existing web image.  It then uses technology by a company called Idée in order to find the same or similar images that have been posted on the internet. I explained this all to my wife who proceeded to question the usefulness.  I think it can be fun to look up popular images and see some of the similar, but photoshopped images that are out there.  TinEye even has a page of example searches that you can do.  One of the most popular is "American Gothic" which has been altered many times over the years.  Below you'll find the original followed by a few different versions.
Now, of course, there are more practical ways to use this service.  Photographers can do image searches of their more popular work in order to make sure no one else has posted it, or worse yet taken credit for it. As of this posting TinEye is on an invite-only status.  This just means that when you go to their website they'll ask you for your email address.  When your invite is ready they'll let you know.  Mine only took a few weeks.

About

Here is where you'll find all sorts of randomness that I decide to share online. I have given up on the "fancy" blogging services and started to use Posterous due to it's ease of use.
