"Off the Record" Podcast is Addictive if you Live in the Harrisburg Area (and Maybe Even if you Don't)

I listen to a LOT of podcasts.  Most of them are tech-related and/or West Coast-based.  It's nice to find a locally produced show by a couple of Harrisburg web celebrities.

Jersey Mike and Sara Bozich sit down each week at a bar and basically talk about local happenings in the Harrisburg area.  They intend to keep politics out of the conversation, but it always sneaks it's way in.  They talk about local businesses that are opening (or closing).  They give their 'off the record' opinions on everything.

DUB Pimpstar rims. Spend $30,000 for wheels and become instant police bait!

This video was posted on YouTube 2 1/2 years ago but I never heard of these rims. Inventor Jon Hoffman was on today's episode of the Adam Carolla podcast. They look ridiculous, cost a lot, mess up vehicle handling, affect performance and increase braking distance. The inventor said that a set of 26" rims and tires will run approximately $30,000.

Today's progress on Jess's office

Here are some pictures of what got done today in the room that we're calling Jess's office.  It will also be a guest bedroom once we get some more furniture in it.

She picked the colors.  The wall color is hard to see in the pictures but it is a grayish-purple.  The closet's color is much more deep than the pictures show.

I laid down the floor today and put up the ceiling fan.  The desk is temporary until we get her a better one.  The chair is also temporary (buy comfy).

Her tiny netbook computer is what I'm typing this on right now (not too bad considering my large hands).

This week I'll be putting in the baseboard trim and we'll be doing a little bit of touchup painting so everything looks 100%.  We have the shelf and hanger bar for the closet.  That will be put up this week so we have a place to hang out-of-season clothing.  A bi-fold closet door is also in the plans.

Recycle Wine Bottles into Stylish Outdoor Torches - (via Lifehacker)

By Jason Fitzpatrick, 4:00 PM on Sat Aug 15 2009, 31,939 views (Edit, to draft, Slurp)

Think cheap Tiki torches are tacky? Want something a bit sturdier and with more refined looks? Use this simple tutorial to turn recycled wine bottles into swanky bug-repelling outdoor lighting.

Gerardot&Co., a design and marketing agency, put together a tutorial on recycling wine bottles into mounted torches. The design is ingeniously simple, and requires only a few bucks worth of parts from your local hardware store. You'll need a few copper fittings, a bolt, a few nuts, and a mounting plate, along with a standard torch wick and some oil.

Assuming you've got the bottles on hand, or some friends willing to down a few for a good cause, for under $50 you could outfit a sizable yard with wine-torches. Torches, we might add, that have a sizable 750ml reservoir to them burning bright, no matter how late your dinner parties last.

It looks ANOTHER storm is coming

The first picture is a look eastward from Dillsburg, PA

The second is westward.

By the way, this post is mostly so I can try out Posterous to see how well they handle images.

Paint progress...

(download)

Here's a quick video of what we're doing for the "guest bedroom / jess's office"  The tops of the walls need painted.  The inner window frames needed refinished.  The floor needs put down.  We need to pick out a light fixture.  We should be done by next weekend if all goes well.  By the way, my "office" is the basement and garage (and I couldn't be happier).
